Pritchardville, South Carolina

Pritchardville is a small, unincorporated community nestled between Hardeeville and Bluffton in Beaufort County. It punctuates the scenic expanse of Highway 46, one of South Carolina's most picturesque, low-country travel corridors, and offers a glimpse of southern living at its most charming.

Pritchardville is an area that's easy to fall in love with. As you journey down Highway 46, graceful, moss-draped oak trees give way to swaying palms, calling you onward. You'll pass tiny, white-washed churches, green pastures, and quaint architecture so timeless that you could easily imagine traveling back to a simpler way of life. Pritchardville borrows its name from nearby Pritchardville Farms, renowned for its sweet summer fruits, but the community of Pritchardville may be the sweetest fruit of all.

Golfing is a favorite activity here, and you'll find some excellent courses to challenge your club-wielding skills. Check out the Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes. Pin Tail Creek Golf Course is also an ideal spot perfect for beginners.

For nature enthusiasts, the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is a must-see. It's one of the nation's most important migratory bird sanctuaries and spans over 30,000 acres of hardwood forests, wetlands, grasslands, beaches, and aquatic habitats. Although most visitors shoot with cameras, you can also fish, hike, and hunt here. If you're a photography buff, this is the place for you. The Palmetto Oaks Sculpture Garden is a feast for the senses. It's a short nature walk through a woodland garden brimming with unique sculptures, and each piece has a special story.

History buffs won't want to miss the Heyward House Museum & Welcome Center. They have terrific walking and house tours and are well-known for their historical knowledge and fascinating local stories.

Brave adventurers need to tighten up their shoelaces; several intriguing local sites are rumored to be haunted. Head over to Old Calhoun Street in Bluffton and check out Planters Mercantile, Patz House, and Carson Cottage. According to famed psychic and ghost hunter Sam Carona, photographs of these historic locales might turn up a ghost or two.

Of course, no journey through the Pritchardville area would be complete without stopping for some incredible food. Head to Chickin Lickin in Hardeeville for some delicious southern fried chicken. Or hit the Pink Pig for some great barbeque. Meanwhile, The Bluffton Room is the place to go when you're craving seafood, and you'll find no better Italian fare than at Dolce Vita Italian Ristorante. Their tiramisu is so good you'll want seconds. With reviews like, "This was some of the best food we had ever had," you know you won't be disappointed.
